The third season of Sam Levinson’s hit HBO series, Euphoria, is in the works, but one character will not be back on the silver screen when it returns. Actress Barbie Ferreira, best known for her role as Kat Hernandez, will not return for the show’s third chapter. She broke the news via Instagram on Wednesday evening.
“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote.
“I hope many of you could see yourself in her [as] I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.”
While she doesn’t appear to be heading back to HBO any time soon, she does have plans to remain on the small screen and big screen in the future. Since the sophomore season of Euphoria wrapped up, the star actress has appeared in Jordan Peele’s Nope and Seth Green’s Robot Chicken. She is also set to appear in the forthcoming documentary, I Am What’s Underneath.
As for Euphoria, Levinson nor HBO have issued a statement regarding Ferreira’s sudden and surprising exit. At this time, it is unclear if the character of Kat Hernandez will be taken on by another actor in the future. Early projections indicate that Euphoria could return as early as late 2023.
