For more than a decade, Drake has been an immovable force within the realm of Pop, Rap and R&B. Not to mention, he’s recently delved into Jersey Club, Baltimore Club and House. Along the way, he’s picked up his fair share of awards, toured the world and topped the charts. As he inches closer to his 40th birthday, he’s taken some time to reflect on his legendary career thus far. Most notably, he ripped through his catalog of hits at separate shows in New York and Arizona. Moving forward, it appears that he may be looking to take a break from releasing music as consistently as he has in the past.
“I’m at the point now where I just want to like, and I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day, but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” Drake told Lil’ Yachty last week.
Before Drake thinks about making his “graceful exit” from music, he may want to collaborate with another legendary figure. Babyface is set to appear in an upcoming episode of Interval Presents’ Rap Radar podcast with Brian “B. Dot” Miller and Elliott Wilson. In their in-depth conversation, the legendary singer, songwriter and producer opened about his desire to work with Drake in the future.
“I love Drake and I think that Drake is like…I’d love to work with Drake where we just do a classic song because I think his phrasing and his lyrics and everything…[go] beyond just rap, so to say,” Babyface said.
“And I like the tone of his voice. So, I feel like there’s like, even in there, I feel like I hear emotion and stuff in his voice. So, as a writer and a producer, even with rap and Hip-Hop or whatever you want to call it, the same thing applies. The emotion and the feel-good [are still there and important] whether it’s Drake or Lil’ Baby or Babyface Ray. You know these vibes that I hear, when I hear it, it moves me.”
Babyface has wasted no time working with today’s talented acts. In recent years, he’s released collaborations with Kehlani, Ella Mai and Coco Jones. Maybe, Drake will be the next contemporary act to get in the studio with the legendary hitmaker.
