The Detroit Pistons acquired Avery Bradley as a potential upgrade for the departing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The swingman was deemed expendable by the Boston Celtics after they made a flurry of moves to add to their perimeter depth. Bradley was swapped for Marcus Morris and the defensive-minded two guard joined a Pistons team looking to make a return to the Playoffs.
It all started well for Detroit as they held a 14-6 record until December 1st came around. Detroit fell back to earth, lost seven in a row and landed right back at the .500 threshold. But as the Pistons got back into their winning ways, they saw Bradley exit the rotation due to a groin injury. It turns out that he suffered a ‘pubic stress injury’, which is similar to a sports hernia, and he could be out until the start of the new year. The Pistons are 4-1 so far without Bradley this season.
The Pistons released an update on their website last week about Bradley’s injury.
Bradley has more than just a right adductor strain, it turns out. Van Gundy described it as a “pubic stress injury” with symptoms similar to a sports hernia. At minimum, Bradley will miss the next three games.
“He’s going to be shut down for at least a week,” Van Gundy said after Tuesday’s practice. “We’ll go at least seven days and then week to week. It’s going to take some time. He’ll basically do nothing for the next seven days and then we’ll see where he is and whether we’re starting him back or not.”
Just a few days later, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said that Bradley went to see a specialist in Philadelphia and his prognosis didn’t change much. The team hopes he will return by January 1st.
SVG says Avery Bradley, who saw a specialist yesterday, is feeling better and they hope to have him back around Jan. 1
