Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will reportedly train in the U.S. for his next bout. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, did not indicate who Joshua will train with, but he did confirm the former heavyweight champion will make his way across the pond next week.
“He is gonna train in America, and he’ll start that camp in the next week,” Hearn told Barak Bess and Akin “Ak” Reyes of The DAZN Boxing Show.
“He’ll be flying out. You guys will get the news soon. Like I said, AJ’s his own man, and something like that is for him to confirm once he’s happy to confirm it.”
Recently, Joshua has spent time with a number of notable trainers, including Virgil Hunter and Derrick James. Robert Garcia also stepped in as his lead trainer prior to fighting Oleksandr Usyk for the second time, but it does not appear that he will be reuniting with Garcia this time around.
As for his work inside of the ring on fight night, Hearn has indicated that Joshua would like to fight three times in 2023. He believes that Joshua will be back in the ring by April.
“April 1 is the targeted date in London,” Joshua said.
“Really, I have a call to go through the final list of opponents, the final, you know, bits and pieces around the date. We’re almost ready, really. He’s excited.”
