Former LSU Tigers basketball star Shaquille O’Neal has called current Tigers star Angel Reese the GOAT of LSU athletics. Reese has certainly entered the conversation after winning the program their first basketball National Championship in either women’s or men’s sports. When it comes to LSU athletics, only three names really enter the conversation for the GOAT of the program. Those athletes are Shaq himself, former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, and the newly appointed star of women’s college basketball Reese herself. With her LSU career not even over, she has plenty of time to add to her case.
“She’s probably the greatest athlete ever to come out of LSU sports. … Male and female.”

If Angel Reese is not yet the GOAT of LSU athletics she one day could be with plenty of time to add to her already fantastic legacy. Shaq was a dominant player for the Tigers, but never led the program to a National Championship. While Joe Burrow did win a National Championship for the football program it was after he transferred in and had just one spectacular season. Reese has already had a spectacular season and a Championship winning effort. With more time to add to her legacy, Shaq could prove to be a sports prophet.
This past season as a sophomore with the LSU Tigers, Angel Reese averaged 23 points, 15.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. When the 2023-24 college basketball season begins, Reese will be a favorite to win the National Player of the Year Award and LSU will be a favorite to cut down the nets once again.
