Super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner is no stranger to landing partnerships. While she is best known for her work in the ring, Baumgardner has teamed up with Ford Models, Adidas, Matchroom Boxing and several other entities. Now, it looks like she has secured another deal with the Detroit Boxing Company. Throughout February, Baumgardner will work with the Detroit Boxing Company to share her latest piece of merchandise, a t-shirt commemorating her knockout wing against Terri Harper.
As for her work inside the ring, the Ohio native is reportedly in talks to fight fellow super featherweight Choi Hyun-mi later this year. If Baumgardner emerges with a win, she would more than likely set up a major fight with Mikaela Mayer for the undisputed super featherweight title. Since winning the super featherweight title in 2021, Baumgardner and Mayer have traded shots on social media regarding the fight.
“I believe Choi is a great option for me first as she has a title, then we can move onto the fight that everyone wants to see against Mayer,” Baumgardner told Bad Left Hook last month.
“Everything makes Mikaela Mayer beatable. Her resume is poor, her style of fighting reminds me of amateur boxing and I see so many flaws in her style of fighting. A lot of people don’t know but I have wanted her since the amateur days. I have always thought, ‘Why does everyone think this girl is any good?’”
The winner of a potential fight between Mayer and Baumgardner would likely be first in line to fight the winner of Amanda Serrano-Katie Taylor early next year.
