Days after delivering X trailer with Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, A24 has offered the first look at their upcoming film, After Yang.
Led by Colin Farrel and Jodie Smith-Turner, the A24 production centers around a family set years into the future. One day, the family of four loses one of its own. Through the two-minute trailer, it is revealed that the family’s oldest son, Yang, is not human in the traditional sense. Rather, he is a robot or piece of technology that rivals that of a human. However, he malfunctions and the family is set to pick up the pieces. Along their journey, Yang and his family uncovers what it means to be human and to desire all the simple things that we come to take for granted.
After Yang has not arrived in theaters or DSPs just yet, but critics have taken an early look at the film. Thus far, A24’s After Yang appears to be a critically-acclaimed success.
“A sci-fi mystery turned inside out, After Yang is an achingly gorgeous film about clones and androids, loss and memory, culture and family, all bound by a breathtaking visual approach,” Siddhant Adlakha of IGN wrote.
“The control and confidence of its form, paired with an emotionality that is at once effortless and irresistibly powerful, makes the film feel to the audience the way those pointed and yet somehow ephemeral clips in Yang’s memory feel to Jake. In preying on a sensation that’s only indirectly remembered, the impact it makes becomes unforgettable,” Todd Gilchrist of The Wrap adds in a separate review.
Kogonada’s After Yang debuts March 4, 2022. Check out the trailer below.
