Pro Bowl offensive lineman and Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Ali Marpet has announced his retirement from football at the age of 28. While he has been graded as one of the better offensive linemen in the NFL injuries have slowed him down. He follows legendary quarterback Tom Brady into retirement as the second Tampa Bay Buccaneers player to do so this offseason. There has been a growing trend of talented players preserving their bodies and retiring before they turn 30 years old.

Ali Marpet’s improbable rise to NFL stardom is a story that doesn’t happen often but can be overlooked when it happens with an offensive lineman. The star guard will retire as a one-time Pro Bowl member and the winner of Super Bowl LV. From 2015 to 2021 the star offensive lineman played 101 games in the regular season. He played right guard, center, and left guard for the team in those years.
The Bucs have now had two major retirements on offense this offseason in Tom Brady & Ali Marpet.
Offensive players currently scheduled to be a free agent: WR Chris Godwin, C Ryan Jensen, G Alex Cappa, TEs Rob Gronkowski/OJ Howard, RBs Leonard Fournette/Ronald Jones/Gio Bernard.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a different stage of football than they were just a few months ago. Several players will be free agents and decisions will have to be made. Replacing Tom Brady and Ali Marpet will be no easy task. We here at Def Pen Sports wish the guard the best in his retirement.
