More changes are coming to one of the world’s most popular social media outlets. Social media consultant Matt Navarra has reported that TikTok will now allow users to upload videos of up to ten minutes. This is not the first time that ByteDance has made such a change to the app. Less than a year ago, TikTok increased the maximum video length to three minutes. It’s unclear how many content creators will take advantage of such changes, but it could have major consequences for the future of the app.
“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a spokesperson for TikTok told Variety.
“Last year, we introduced longer videos, giving our community more time to create and be entertained on TikTok. Today, we’re excited to start rolling out the ability to upload videos that are up to 10 minutes, which we hope would unleash even more creative possibilities for our creators around the world.”
TikTok is currently riding the high of an incredible run in 2021. Last year, TikTok surpassed Google to become the most searched site in the United States.
“2021 told a different story. It was on February 17, 2021, that TikTok got the top spot for a day. Back in March, TikTok got a few more days and also in May, but it was after August 10, 2021, that TikTok took the lead on most days,” João Tomé and Sofia Cardita of Cloudflare stated.
“There were some days when Google was #1, but October and November were mostly TikTok’s days, including on Thanksgiving (November 25) and Black Friday (November 26).”
