Aaron Rodgers reportedly wants out of Green Bay. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rodgers has grown disgruntled with the Packers organization and does not want to return to the team next season. This comes hours after it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers tried to inquire about trading for the reigning MVP.
Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

This would be a historical move, as Schefter would point out in a follow-up Tweet. If Rodgers doesn’t return to the Packers it will only be the third time the reigning MVP did not return to their respective franchise the season after. The previous two to do so retired. Rodgers would be the first to be traded or to sign with another team after winning MVP.
There never has been an NFL MVP traded after winning the award in the previous season. The only MVPs not to return to their team in the season after winning the award were Norm Van Brocklin (retired after winning MVP in 1960) and Jim Brown (retired after winning MVP in 1965). https://t.co/hH8kZfuI0A

Last season, there was clearly a frustration between the Super Bowl MVP quarterback and the organization. When the reports came out that the 49ers had offered a very handsome package, it was assumed that would be the move. Those rumors were denied pretty soon after, and it remains to be seen how real or serious those talks were.
The obvious thing is that Aaron Rodgers wants out, and keeping a disgruntled QB on the roster isn’t the formula for success.
