The former Indiana Hoosier has been a bit of an NBA journeyman in his time in the league. After some success with the Dallas Mavericks, including averaging 10.2 points, 2.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game in the 2017-18 season, he spent time in Sacramento. This season, he has spent some time in Cleveland and now in Los Angeles where he will remain for the rest of the season.
He has averaged 6.6 points per game along with 3.0 assists. The Clippers are quickly finalizing their roster for the 2021 NBA Playoffs. They recently signed DeMarcus Cousins for the rest of the season after a pair of 10-day contracts. Ferrell can make a good backup guard who can provide some points, some passing, and some perimeter defense as well.
Although the former All-Rookie guard hasn’t had the career some thought he might, he is still a valuable young guard who is just four years into his NBA career. Although a small guard, Ferrell has been known for his toughness and attitude. When he was at Indiana under Tom Crean, he teamed up with Victor Oladipo for the 2012-13 season.
This signing gives Ferrell a playoff opportunity that he hasn’t had before in his career. As a backup, he can stay calm and not worry about having to play a lot of minutes every game. This could be a great pairing and coach Tyronn Lue will have his roster ready for the playoffs.
