Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently opened up about his use of ayahuasca on a retreat in Peru in 2020. According to the NFL, this is not a violation of the NFL’s drug policy. Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesperson, said in a statement that the use of ayahuasca would not have triggered a positive test on either of the NFL drug tests. The NFL and NFLPA negotiated two types of drug tests; the substance abuse test and the performance-enhancing test. Because of that, there will be no punishment handed down.

Aaron Rodgers has credited the hallucinogenic drink with his success and MVP that following season. While talking about the experiences Rodgers said he gained, “a deep and meaningful appreciation for life. I came back and knew I was never going to be the same.” The future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee also briefly considered retirement last season. Considering the drug ayahuasca does not trigger a positive result on either test there is little the NFL can do even if they wanted to.

Heading into the season and while there are some questions, the Green Bay Packers plan to win the NFC North. The team also hopes to compete and win a Super Bowl this season. One thing about the team is when they have Aaron Rodgers under center they have a chance in any game they play. The season should be fun and if they handle things correctly, perhaps Rodgers can capture his second Super Bowl win.
