The Federal Bureau of Investigation has executed a search warrant at the home of former President Donald Trump in Florida. It is unclear what specific items authorities were looking for, but multiple reports suggest that the search was likely connected to allegations that Trump kept presidential records in his Florida home.
The former President was irate as federal agents raided his home in the Sunshine State. Trump went as far as to call the search an act of “political persecution.”
“My beautiful home Mar A Lago in Palm Beach, Florida is currently under siege, raided and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Donald Trump stated.
“After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid at my home was not necessary or appropriate.”
As news of the raid spread to the nation’s capital, a number of political figures offered their thoughts.
“Defund the FBI,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted.
“Trump failed to return classified docs requested by the National Archives. A federal judge issued a search warrant for probable cause of a crime. This is not some [random] move by the FBI, so you Republicans calling for ‘defunding the FBI’ [should] try to be less stupid,” former Republic National Committee Chairman Michael Steele replied.
Despite the public comments made by both Donald Trump and several of his supporters, there is no further information regarding the scope of the search. Neither the FBI’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. nor the agency’s field office in Miami, Florida have issued an official statement.
