Rakim “A$AP Rocky” Mayers pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The charges levied against the Grammy-nominated artist stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on November 6, 2021 in Hollywood. Alongside two other individuals, A$AP Rocky is accused of approaching the accuser and firing multiple shots. The accuser did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, but one bullet did allegedly graze the intended target.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón stated on Wednesday.
Five months after the shooting, A$AP Rocky was arrested as he arrived back in Los Angeles after a vacation in Barbados with Rihanna. While he was released after posting bail, authorities did raid his home and found multiple firearms. After examining the findings of the raid, it was reportedly determined that the firearms police uncovered were legally obtained and not connected to the shooting in question.
After filing a plea of not guilty, the Harlem artist will appear in court again on November 2, 2022.
