As quiet as it’s kept, the final quarter of 2016 was an incredible period in the world of music. J. Cole delivered For Your Eyes Only, Childish Gambino dropped Awaken! My Love and Solange was just rolling out A Seat At The Table. Not to be forgotten, Migos were making the transition into their debut studio album, Culture. With all of that going, a soft-spoken, thoughtful artist out of Atlanta, Georgia by the name of 6LACK was making his presence felt with the release of Free 6LACK.
Free 6LACK didn’t include any major features, but its unique, desolate sound and thoughtful lyrics paved the way for where the Atlanta native would go from there. Over the last few years, he’s worked with everyone from Jessie Reyez to Offset. Through all of it, he’s maintained his sound and expanded into new areas of music. This year, he celebrated the sixth anniversary of his breakout project and set the stage for what is to come.
“Today marks six years since Free 6LACK,” he tweeted.
“And the last anniversary before we get into season three.”
Fans have been begging for new music from the Atlanta artist for some time now. It’s been four years since his sophomore album, East Atlanta Love Letter, and nearly three years have passed since his 6pc Hot EP dropped. Fortunately, fans will not have to wait much longer for his next body of work.
