Five years ago may seem like a lifetime ago. In November 2016, the world was reeling following the election of the 45th President. Colin Kaepernick’s decision to protest during the national anthem was still new and fresh. The Chicago Cubs had just ended their nearly century-long World Series drought and Childish Gambino was preparing to completely change his sound with Awaken! My Love. Simply put, there were a number of things going on.
In the midst of the change and unexpected events, 6LACK emerged out of Atlanta, Georgia. After years of working on his craft in the shadow of Flo Rida and maintaining his artistic integrity, 6LACK broke out with his project, Free 6LACK. With the help of tracks like “Ex Calling” and “PRBLMS,” the Atlanta native set himself aside from just about every other new act at the time. He had worked for his moment in the sun and his music was connecting in the way that he had hoped. It was a dream come true, but only the start of it.
Since Free 6LACK dropped, 6LACK can say he has delivered another album along with an EP. He’s also toured with The Weeknd, earned three GRAMMY nods and sold countless records. Entering the holiday weekend, 6LACK has decided to celebrate just how far he has come. In honor of the Free 6LACK fifth anniversary, 6LACK has announced that he will be hosting a concert at The Masquerade in Atlanta on November 26. Quiñ, Chadster and DJ Millie will offer support for the LVRN event. Tickets will go on sale November 22.
