On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the Sugar Bowl Committee elected to postponed the 2025 All State Sugar Bowl at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Georgia Bulldogs were set to host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Wednesday, January 1 at 8:45 p.m. EST, but will now play on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at a time to be determined.
“The 2025 College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the All State Sugar Bowl has been postponed until tomorrow. We will communicate further details as they become available,” the Sugar Bowl Committee stated.
The highly-anticipated showdown between Georgia and Notre Dame was postponed hours after an electric Ford pickup truck drove into a crowd of people along Bourbon Street, killing at least ten and injuring nearly three dozen. The driver of the electric Ford pickup reportedly exchanged gun fire and died shorty thereafter The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the incident as an “act of terrorism” and recently identified the driver as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar. However, authorities have stated that they believe he is not “solely” responsible for the mass casualty event.
“The Sugar Bowl Committee is devastated by the terrible events from early this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We are in ongoing discussions with authorities on the local, state and federal level levels and will communicate further details as they become available,” the committee stated.
The 2025 All State Sugar Bowl Committee is expected to formally announce the updated kickoff time later today.
