
N.W.A., Gladys Knight and the Clark Sisters will receive 2024 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Special Merit Awards. The award highlights individuals who “have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.” Past recipients include Donny Hathaway, Dionne Warwick, The Temptations and The Supremes among others.
“The Academy is honored to pay tribute to this year’s Special Merit Award recipients — a remarkable group of creators and industry professionals whose impact resonates with generations worldwide,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said.
“Their contributions to music span genres, backgrounds and crafts, reflecting the rich diversity that fuels our creative community. We look forward to honoring these music industry trailblazers next month as part of our week-long celebration leading up to Music’s Biggest Night.”
Additional honorees across various categories at the Special Merit Awards include DJ Kool Herc, K’naan, Peter Asher, Laurie Anderson, Tammy Wynette, Joel Katz, Tom Kobayashi, Tom Scott, Gerald Eaton and Steve McEwan.
The 2024 Recording Academy Special Merit Awards will take place Saturday, February 3 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, California. One day later, the 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the ceremony will be broadcast on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. EST.
