The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards have kicked off at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. To get things going, comedian Jo Koy did what he’s set out to do his entire life — tell jokes. For about ten minutes, the first-time Golden Globe Award host made sure to touch on everything going on in the world of film and television this evening. From joking about needing another hour of backstory in Oppenheimer to poking fun at The Royal Family, Koy made sure to keep everyone on their toes throughout the set. However, comedy can be fickle at times as some will love it and others will hate it.

All was not lost on Koy’s opening set. The comedian’s opening monologue made way for Angela Bassett and Jared Leto to set foot on stage and deliver the night’s first two award. Leading the way, Da’Vine Joy Randolph of The Holdovers won “Best Supporting Female Actor – Motion Picture.” Shortly thereafter, Robert Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor for her performance in Oppenheimer.
