Once again, North Carolina Central University reigns atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. This week, NCCU Quarterback Davius Richard was named the conference’s offensive player of the year. Shortly thereafter, NCCU Defensive Back Khalil Baker was named the conference’s defensive player of the year.
“Congratulations to both Davius and Khalil on being named our Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year,” MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills said, per HBCU Gameday.
“They have earned every accolade they receive through their success on the field and they are fine representatives of both North Carolina Central University and the MEAC. I’m proud to honor them as the first Players of the Year during my tenure as commissioner.”
Hailing from Belle Glade, Florida, Richard is a 6’3, 215-pound junior. This season, Richard has completed 63% of his passes while throwing for 2,473 yards and 24 touchdowns. Meanwhile, his teammate, Khalil Baker, has compiled 41 tackles, four interceptions, one fumble return and one touchdown. The play of Richard and Baker has propelled the NCCU Eagles to a 9-2 record and a MEAC title. On December 17, the Eagles will put their season on the line against Deion Sanders and the Jackson State Tigers in the Celebration Bowl.
