This year’s rookie class was a highly productive group as a whole. The Eagles found their franchise quarterback in Carson Wentz and he isn’t even in the conversation for the award. Who will bring home the crown as offensive rookie of the year? For a flashback look at the 2016 Draft click here.
- Ezekiel Elliot (Dallas Cowboys)
Elliot is my pick to win this award. A big reason for this is because I think his quarterback, Dak Prescott, will win the MVP award. Elliot led the league in rushing yards with 1,631 yards and didn’t even play in the week 17 finale as Dallas decided to rest a number of starters for their playoff run. The 2nd leading rusher, Jordan Howard, rushed for 1,313 yards. Elliot also ran for 15 touchdowns on the season. Sure a lot of credit has to be given to Dallas’ offensive line but they wouldn’t be 13-3 without him. Elliot proved he was absolutely deserving of being the 4th overall pick.
2. *Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys)
I’m putting him here if he doesn’t win the MVP. If he does Elliot will win the rookie of the year.
3. Jack Conklin (Tennessee Titans)
If an offensive tackle is ever going to win this award, it should be Conklin. The rookie from Michigan State has been lights out at tackle all season. He gave up only 11 pressures all season long. He deserves a ton of credit for the progression of quarterback Marcus Mariota as well. Conklin has proved me wrong as he is more than just a guard.
4. Tyreek Hill (Kansas City Chiefs)
Hill edges out Michael Thomas in my eyes as the most impressive rookie wide receiver. Hill has made Kansas City’s offense explosive taking a lot of pressure off of Alex Smith. He has even made an impact in the return game scoring 12 total touchdowns on the season. 8 of his touchdowns have been from 30 yards or more. The 6th round pick has been the diamond in the rough every team wants.
