Georgia is looking to pass an anti-LGBT bill, but Disney and Marvel are not having it. The Georgia legislature has sent a controversial bill to Gov. Nathan Deal. The bill, which is officially titled “Free Exercise Protection Act”, will allow those with certain religious beliefs to discriminate against those within the LGBT community. As the NYDN reports, the bill will protect those who are faith-based at all cost.
“No faith-based organization “shall be required to provide social, educational or charitable services that violate such faith-based organizations sincerely held religious belief” and that such organizations can’t be forced to “hire or retain as an employee any person whose religious beliefs or practices or lack of either are not in accord with the faith-based organizations sincerely held religious belief.”
Like we stated previously, Marvel and Disney are totally against this heinous act. The two companies have come out to say that they will boycott the state of Georgia if and when this bill is passed. If you don’t know, majority of Marvel’s films are produced within Georgia, the latest being Captain America: Civil War and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.
“Disney and Marvel are inclusive companies,” a Disney spokesman said today, “and although we have had great experiences filming in Georgia, we will plan to take our business elsewhere should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law.”
Gov. Nathan Deal has until May 3rd to make his decision on the bill. If the bill is passed, this will open up so many doors to discrimination, not only within religion, but with job opportunities as well. Hopefully Gov Nathan makes the right decision and veto’s the bill.
