Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have found a new parter in the Matrix. According to Variety, Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has signed on to join the two original cast memebers in the upcoming sequel. It’s unknown who Abdul-Mateen will be portraying in the film.
In August, Warner Bros. announced that a fourth Matrix film is in development with Lana Wachowski returning to write and direct. Reeves and Moss are both obviously reprising their roles from the original trilogy however, Lawrence Fishburne has yet to sign on. There are rumors that a younger version of his character Morpheus could appear played by a different actor. But, nothing official has been announced on that front.
Abdul-Mateen has exploded onto the scene over the last year. He starred opposite Jason Momoa as Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman. Then, earlier this year he appeared in a season five episode of Black Mirror alongside Anthony Mackie. And before The Matrix 4, he’ll star in HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series.
The Matrix 4 is set to begin production early next year. A release date has yet to be announced.
