After three unsuccessful tries for the Wizards while using the pick-and-roll, John Wall and Marcin Gortat finally hooked up on this play for an open alley-oop layup. It will be crucial for more of these easy baskets to fall off of a pick-and-roll as the Wizards need to have a big second half to come back and steal Game 1 in Atlanta.
Even though the pick-and-roll has not worked too much so far throughout the game, it is important for the Wizards to continue to use this strategy due to the fact it was how they scored a bulk of their points throughout the season. Towards the end of the first half, the pick-and-rolls finally began to work for the Wizards as they went small. It is not yet time to give up on the connections between Wall and Gortat, but instead, it is time to try to find the Polish Hammer for more easy buckets down in the paint.
