Wouldn’t be March Madness without an upset!
Georgia State, hot off their run in the Sun Belt Conference tournament came into their NCAA tournament game as the 14 seed against the 3 seed Baylor Bears. Georgia State had the storybook team, former NCAA tournament legend Kevin Ware playing on Georgia State after transferring from Louisville after he fully recovered from his horrific broken leg and another transfer coming from Kentucky in Ryan Harrow. Baylor of course is the power house coming out of the Big 12 led by Taurean Prince and Rico Gathers, with nothing to lose.
The story has been laid out but another dynamic was added when Coach Ron Hunter tore his achilles tendon celebrating with his team after they won their Sun Belt conference tournament championship game.
So Coach Hunter had to go into the game and coach it on a rolling chair, sitting down the whole time and not being able to stand up due to his torn achilles. Then, the miracle happened.
Coach Hunter’s son, R.J. Hunter, pulled up for a 3 and hit the shot with only 2.8 seconds to go to cap off a 13-0 run by the Panthers to send the Baylor Bears home a little early. Ron Hunter was so excited he fell out of his rolling chair.
