Former super lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko is expected to fight fellow former world titlist Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden on December 11. ESPN has also reported that super middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga is also expected to fight at Madison Square Garden on December 11. Both fights are expected to follow the Heisman Trophy Ceremony in what has become somewhat of a coveted night in boxing.
Lomachenko has fought twice following the Heisman Trophy ceremony. In 2017, he knocked out Guillermo Rigondeaux. One year later, he earned a unanimous decision fighting against Jose Pedraza.
Unfortunately, Commey has not fared the same when fighting after the Heisman Trophy ceremony. In 2019, he was stopped for the first time in his career in a second-round TKO loss against current titleholder Teofimo Lopez. Lopez is also the last man to beat Lomachenko.
Lopez and Lomachenko are expected to work out a deal to fight again in 2022 if both fighters can get by their next opponent.
