Will Tyson Fury fight once more this year? Yes, it appears so. Will he fight Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua? No, it does not appear that he will. Instead, it appears that he will fight an old foe — Derek Chisora. Boxing insider Mike Coppinger of ESPN has reported that Fury will fight Chisora for the third time on December 3, 2022 at an unspecified location in the U.K.
“I’ve decided to come back to boxing because I can be the first heavyweight world champion in history to have two trilogies,” he told ESPN.
I’d always say I’d fight Derek Chisora at the end of my career.”
Fury currently holds the WBC Heavyweight Championship after returning from a lengthy hiatus and beating Deontay Wilder in February 2020. Since then, he has defended his title against Wilder in October 2021 and Dillian Whyte in April 2022.
Fury’s opponent, Derek Chisora, has never held a share of the world heavyweight title, but he is widely considered one of the most beloved fighters in the U.K. today. After suffering three consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk and Joseph Parker twice, Chisora earned a split decision win against Kubrat Pulev in July 2022.
This will not be the first time that Chisora and Fury have shared the ring. In July 2011, Fury handed Chisora the first loss of his professional career. Three years later, they fought for a second time and Fury won by 10th round TKO. Nearly a decade removed from their second fight, Fury and Chisora will look to put a definitive stamp on their longtime rivalry.
