The state of Alabama has been at the center of political universe for the past week. Legislatures in the Heart of Dixie recently passed one of the most restrictive pieces of abortion legislature in modern American history. New laws in the southern state have made abortion illegal in all cases including rape and incest. In the immediate aftermath, politicians and activists alike have called out the state’s lawmakers for inciting a regression in political policy. Entertainers such as Rihanna and Offset have also used their platforms to speak out against the bill. Even conservative pundits such as Tomi Lahren have also voiced their displeasure with the move. Over the weekend, Travis Scott joined the fight against the law by making a major donation.
During the 2019 Hangout Music Festival in Alabama, Travis Scott announced that he would be donating all the proceeds from his merchandise to Planned Parenthood. Scott said, “I want to donate my net profits from my merch today to Planned Parenthood.” He added, “We feel for those in Alabama. I love you all. I just want everyone to know that love is the strongest thing that we can have.” Hopefully, Travis Scott will set a trend for other artists to follow in the near future.
