The rumor of LeBron James being open to holding a free agency meeting with the Golden State Warriors sent shockwaves throughout the NBA. The Warriors are already looked at as overpowered so adding someone who is widely believed to be the best player alive would only skew the balance of power even more.
But some may think this chaos surrounding the possibility of LeBron joining the Warriors is exactly what the superstar wants. Current Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk thinks this way and in fact, he even believes it was someone in James’ camp who leaked the rumor in the first place. Following from CBS Atlanta (h/t CBS Sports):
I would be really, really surprised if LeBron went to Golden State.
The one thing I will say about Mr. James: He is the master at using the media to get whatever story he wants out there. He’s perfected the art of the social-media game. I think that those things were probably leaked by them, by Mr. James and his camp.
I don’t see a universe where that happens.
It would be interesting to see. It would be interesting to see what he’d be like with the rest of those guys, with his playmaking ability and obviously with the shooting that Golden State has.
Schlenk, a former Warriors front office executive, still addresses that he sees LeBron James joining Golden State as a longshot so perhaps he assumes James could use this rumor as leverage. James is expected to be pursued heavily by numerous teams but it’s likely that the Warriors are not one of them.
With so many variables factored into his decision, all eyes will be on LeBron James this summer as he decides where he wants his future to play out.
