The 95th Academy Awards are full of surprises and the broadcast has not even begun. Previously, Glenn Close was forced to pull out of the awards ceremony after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19. More recently, Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline has revealed that Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise will not appear at the Dolby Theater this evening.
“He’s gone back to work — you will soon be seeing stuff from him shooting on a carrier in Sicily and he’s now back in the UK — and if Top Gun manages to pull off an upset, Jerry Bruckheimer will have to go up and take the bows, even though Cruise is one of the producers,” Fleming Jr. wrote earlier this afternoon.
Close and Cruise will not be in Hollywood for tonight’s festivities, but Lady Gaga will be. Previously, reports indicated that the chart-topping singer would not be able to attend the event because she was shooting a movie. However, it appears that plans have changed.
The decision seemed to be a last-minute back-and-forth effort as Gaga was initially reported to be skipping the awards show due to demands on filming Joker: Folie à Deux,” a report from Variety reads.
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 95th Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
