A new political thriller will hit Prime Video during the second quarter of the new year.
On Thursday, January 2, 2025, multiple reports confirmed G20 will premiere Thursday, April 17. The Patricia Riggen-directed film follows U.S. President Danielle Sutton after she is attacked at the annual G20 world leaders summit.
“After evading capture by the attackers, Sutton must outsmart the enemy to protect her family, defend her country and safeguard world leaders,” the film’s description reads.
Viola Davis will play the lead role of Danielle Sutton while Patricia Riggen directs. Davis, an EGOT winner best known for her roles in How to Get Away with Murder and The Help, last appeared in Creature Commandos and Kung Fu Panda 4 in 2024. Riggen’s most recent work as a film director includes The 33 in 2015 and Miracles From Heaven in 2016.
“It was the sort of thing you’d imagine as a kid, just playing the most heroic character you could possibly play, and you create Danielle Sutton, who was a war hero and then won the election on a liberal ticket,” Davis said.
“I think it just so happens that it mirrored a lot of what was happening in American politics at the time, but really it’s just meant to be a fun movie.”
Alongside Davis, the film features Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Douglas Hodge, Joanna Worth, Sabrina Impacciatore, Christopher Farrar and Anthony Starr. Logan Miller, Noah Miller Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss have written the script and Andrew Lazar, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon are credited as producer.
