The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar as the person responsible for driving a white pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street, killing ten and injuring more than 30.
On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, an electric Ford pickup truck speeding down Bourbon Street in the French Quarter evaded barricades and struck dozens of people, killing ten and injuring more than 30. After striking the crowd, the driver exchanged fire with multiple police officers, injuring at least two before he was struck and killed.
“An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” a statement from the FBI reads.
“Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. The FBI’s special agent bomb technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable, and they will work to render those devices safe.”
The FBI will continue to “investigate this as an act of terrorism” and run “down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject.”
