“You’re not a human being. You’re star,” Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s Tedros tells Lily-Rose Depp’s Jocelyn in the first full trailer for The Idol.
Less than 48 hours after mourning the end of Succession, HBO will attempt to continue its iconic run of premier dramas with the launch of Sam Levinson and Tesfaye’s The Idol. Originating from the minds of Tesfaye and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, the new HBO drama takes a look at celebrity, addiction, abuse, sexuality and much more through the lens of a pop star named Jocelyn.
“After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros, a nightclub impresario with a sordid past,” the show’s logline reads.
“Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest, darkest, depths of her soul?”
Along the ride, Depp, Tesfaye and Levinson are joined by a star-studded cast that includes Jennie Kim, Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Suzanna Son and Sophie Mudd. The Tesfaye-led series is set to debut on HBO on June 4, 2023. Until then, check out The Idol trailer below.
