The Houston Texans are expected to promote Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Lovie Smith to the Head Coach position, according to Adam Schefter from ESPN.
Texans are expected to hire former Buccaneers and Bears head coach Lovie Smith as their own head coach, sources tell me and @fieldyates.
Smith was the Texans’ associate head coach last season; all he now needs to do is drop the associate from his title.

Smith started his coaching career on the high school and college level and made the jump to the NFL in 1996 to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneer linebackers coach. From there, he went to be the Saint Louis Rams Defensive Coordinator, where he made his first trip to the Super Bowl, and the Chicago Bears Head Coach for nine years, including another trip to compete for the championship.
After his time in Chicago, he was hired by the Buccaneers and later went back to coach college football. Last season, he returned to the NFL to partner with David Culley in Houston and now will be in charge of the team.
The Texans come from a 4-13 record for the third place of the AFC South division and have the third pick overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
