While the Toronto Raptors might be in the bottom half of some major team statistical categories in the NBA, the haven’t pushed the panic button quite yet.
Toronto Raptors currently sit in third in the Eastern Conference standings and that’s surprising considering the fact they lost their star, DeMar Derozan for over 15 games.
Raptors have won 3 straight, but not thanks to their young, exciting wing guard/forward, Terrence Ross.
Terrence Ross is a name that has been brought up in trade talks considering the fact he’s recently been replaced as the starting shooting guard in place of Greivis Vasquez. In Ross’ last 10 games, he’s averaged 6.5 points per game on 35% shooting with 0.8 assists per game and 2.5 rebounds in 20 minutes per game.
The following from Sean Deveny of The Sporting News:
The Toronto Raptors have struggled of late, which has led to Dwane Casey to move Terrence Ross to the bench with DeMar DeRozan sliding to small forward and Greivis Vasquez starting at shooting guard.
Ross is not on the trading block, however, according to league sources.
“Absolutely not,” one rival executive told Sporting News. “They still have a lot of belief in him and there is not much you could do to get him from them.”
While Ross’ contract is relatively small if they did want to move him but the Raptors say it won’t happen and they look to develop the young guard.
The problem with Ross is that he hasn’t established himself the way the Raptors thought he was progressing. He’s primarily been more of a 3-point shooter and dunker for the majority of his NBA career and hasn’t really done much else.
He won the dunk contest in 2013 and it was awesome, then he scored 51 points in one game and that was even better for the young Ross as it surprised a lot of people and everyone started to take notice.
Now it seems like he’s hit a wall. Hopefully the 23 year old Ross can get it going.
