It appears Terence Crawford is on the hunt for his next opponent.
It does not appear Errol Spence Jr. will fight Crawford this summer. Instead, all reports indicate Spence Jr. will fight former world champion Keith Thurman in May or June.
Meanwhile, the Omaha native has shifted his focus toward other potential opponents. The Omaha native reportedly met with Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions this weekend. Afterward, Oscar De La Hoya shared a picture of himself standing alongside Crawford and Hopkins. The photo was enough to spark the interest of the entire boxing world.
As a promotional free agent, the welterweight champion is able to ink a deal with Golden Boy Promotions. The promotional stable is currently home to welterweight contenders like Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Alexis Rocha. Golden Boy Promotions is also finalizing a deal with Premier Boxing Champions and Al Haymon to have Ryan Garcia fight Gervonta Davis. This may be of interest to Crawford as Davis works closely with many of the same business figures that Spence Jr. does.
Adding to the buzz created by De La Hoya’s photo, Hopkins also spoke to Chris Mannix of DAZN about the meeting. When asked about a potential deal with Crawford, he said that an announcement is “coming soon.” Hopkins also confirmed that there is a fight with Rocha on the table. However, Rocha must get by George Ashie at the YouTube Theater on Saturday for that to happen. Unfortunately, there were no follow-up questions about a potential fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr. later this year.
Crawford nor his team have confirmed or denied Hopkins’ statements.
