Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. will meet in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, July 29 to fight for the undisputed welterweight title. Leading up to the mega fight, Crawford was asked about another major fight that is set to take place in Las Vegas. In September, Jermell Charlo will move up to weight classes and challenge super middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez. When asked about the matchup, Crawford shared his prediction.
“168 pounds? I ain’t going up there. Definitely [Canelo Wins]. If they’re fighting at 168 pounds, definitely,” the Omaha native told Fight Hype.
With that said, Crawford is not opposed to fighting Charlo if elects to move back down to the 154-pound division after September.
“For some odd reason, once I moved up in weight and I started calling out Errol Spence, that’s his stablemate, he jumped in it. I’m like, ‘Dude, mind your business. Stay on the sidelines. You can be like Spence, my guy. When I beat him, I’m coming to see you,’” Crawford said in May.
Similarly, Charlo has welcomed a fight with Crawford for some time now.
“Whatever, guy, you get your paperwork right, talk to Mr. Haymon, and we’ll get a fight going,” Charlo said in March.
“You damn right it’ll be easy [to make]. Let’s get a big fight going, matter of fact. And I’ll show you better than I can take. Ain’t nothin’ easy in the ring with me.”
