Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis are everything!
The two actresses made history yesterday with their Emmy nominations, making them the first two African-American women nominated for ‘Lead Actress in a Drama.’
Henson stars as Cookie Lyon on Fox’s breakout hit Empire, while Davis stars as Annalise Keating on ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder.
Speaking on her nomination, Henson said:
“I’m so very, very grateful. It’s just so good to get love for what you do!
History has already been made with two African American actresses being nominated. The both of us being nominated for a lead actress means a great deal to me.
That puts more importance on what’s happened.”
Henson also spoke about her co-star Terrence Howard’s Emmy snub:
“I don’t even know….I don’t know what to say!
I can’t do the show by myself. There are writers who are giving us these great story lines. It’s just wrong!
Terrence is my sparring partner. Cookie is nothing without Lucious. She is nothing without her family!”
Couldn’t agree more!
You can see Taraji return to your screens on Empire September 23 on Fox, and catch Viola on How To Get Away With Murder September 24!
The 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards air on September 20 at 7pm.
