T-Pain put to bed any notion that he and Usher were engaged in an R&B feud. During a recent interview, the Florida native said he and Usher have remained friends throughout the years despite rumors to the contrary.
“We never were not friends or anything like that. I’ve never said that I hated Usher or anything in that whole thing. We’ve been fine,” T-Pain explained.
The singer’s recent comments stem from his appearance in Netflix’s 2021 documentary, This Is Pop. At one point, the singer stopped to talk about an interaction with Usher that left him in a state of depression.
“Usher was my friend,” T-Pain said.
“I really respect Usher. And he was like, ‘Man, I’m gonna tell you something, man. You kinda f*cked up music.’ ”
Shortly thereafter, Usher addressed the matter during an interview with Billboard. The Super Bowl LVIII halftime performer confirmed the two had spoken since then and had reconciled.
“I’m happy that T-Pain said something — I’m not sure if it was before or after our actual conversation, after I heard what was said. It was very hurtful to know that he had experienced that kind of hardship in life,” Usher said.
“I wouldn’t wish that on any person. Private conversations for me have always been intended to uplift. But when or if people get pieces of it, they can always have some other interpretation. But we’ve spoken since and we’re good.”
In a more recent interview, T-Pain confirmed the two had conversations before, during and after the documentary’s release.
“Oh yeah. All the time,” T-Pain said when asked if the two speak to one another.
“We’ve talked a lot. I mean, we were talking during that documentary.”
