At this point, it’s hard to imagine a world before COVID-19. However, it did exist. During the fall of 2019, American society and much of the global community were blissfully unaware of what would come. The Washington Nationals were on the way to winning a World Series title, Queen & Slim had just come out and midterm elections were in full swing. In the midst of all that was going on, a star was emerging in the world of R&B. Her name is Summer Walker.
Released in early October, Summer Walker’s debut album, Over It, not only met expectations, but exceeded them. Backed by features from Bryson Tiller, Usher, 6LACK, PartyNextDoor, Drake and Jhené Aiko, Over It went platinum and landed at second on the Billboard 200 Chart. She also used the album to fuel her “First and Last Tour” in the following weeks.
Two years after dropping her debut album, Summer Walker is back. After being denied entry to the 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards because she chooses to remain unvaccinated against COVID-19, Summer Walker stood in a nearby parking lot to announce that her sophomore album would arrive on November 5. To get the ball rolling, Summer Walker has linked up with the City Girls for the albums lead single, “Ex For A Reason.” Listen below and check back for the album in November.
