When Adele comes through, the world seems to stop. Her first album is eight times platinum, 21 went Diamond and 25 won “Album of the Year” at the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Not to mention, she has picked up a GRAMMY, Academy Award and Golden Globe along the way. Now, she’s come back and she’s ready to take over.
After six years away from music, Adele has returned with a new single called “Easy On Me.” The piano ballad touches on her childhood, divorce and unlearning habits that may cause trauma. Somehow, Adele hopes to find pain through all that she’s endured. “Easy On Me” is accompanied by a black and white video that was led by “Hello” director Xavier Dolan.
“I was honestly hoping for this to happen,” Dolan said in a statement obtained by Pitchfork.
“For me, there’s nothing stronger than artists reconnecting after years apart. I’ve changed. Adele’s changed. And this is an opportunity to celebrate how we’ve both evolved, and how we’ve also both remained faithful to our dearest themes. It’s all the same, but different.”
“Easy On Me” serves as the lead single for her upcoming album, 30. Throughout the “Easy On Me” video, she touches on her divorce and she hopes that her young son will be able to learn about why his parents split through this album.
“I wanted to explain to him through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness,” she told Vogue.
“It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal.”
“Easy On Me” is available now and 30 will drop on November 19. Check out her new video below.
