It may have been Valentine’s Day, but there was no love lost between Phoenix Suns Center Drew Eubanks and Detroit Pistons Center Isaiah Stewart.
Before Wednesday’s night cross-conference matchup at the Footprint Center, the Eubanks and Stewart reportedly engaged in a chest-to-chest altercation that resulted in the Pistons center striking Eubanks. Security intervened and Stewart was escorted out of the area, but Eubanks was eventually deemed fit to play later in the day.
“The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable…We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA,” the Phoenix Suns stated.
“We are in the process of gathering information about what happened and what provoked it, and responding to the NBA and local authorities,” the Pistons added.
Stewart, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, did not appear in Wednesday’s game. Meanwhile, Eubanks offered six points and eight rebounds as the Suns beat the Pistons by a score of 116-100.
The NBA is expected to review footage of the incident as the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend looms. Eubanks nor Stewart have issued statements regarding the incident.
