To say that HBO is going through a rough patch would be an understatement. Since the network’s parent company merged with AT&T, the premium cable network has seen a number of its top executives walk out the door. Most notably, the network lost its longtime CEO, Richard Plepler, stepped down after a twenty-seven year run with the company. In addition, the company has recently said goodbye to executives such as Bernadette Aulestia and Kary Antholis have also exited stage left. Today, HBO said goodbye to another one of its top executives.
HBO announced today that its Global Distribution President, Simon Sutton, would be leaving the company. Sutton had been with the company since 2005 and had previously served as President of HBO’s International Content and Distribution. In his most recent position, Sutton was responsible for leading the company to $5 billion in domestic and international revenue. Prior to working at HBO, Sutton served as an executive at MGM.
If AT&T follows suit with its previous decisions, Sutton will likely be offered an early retirement package as Warner Media looks to reduce operating costs. Sutton has yet to comment on the matter publicly and no replacement for Sutton has been named as of yet.
