Halo fans are probably a little wary of adaptations by now after years of rumors of a movie that never came to fruition. But, now it seems like we may finally be getting the live-action Halo story we’ve always wanted. A new adaptation has found its Master Chief, which is more than any previous attempt can say. American Gods and Orange is the New Black alum Pablo Schreiber is set to play the legendary Spartan in a Halo series for Showtime.
It’s time to suit up!@schreiber_pablo has been enlisted as Master Chief. He’ll play the iconic Spartan super soldier and humanity’s last hope against the alien Covenant in our upcoming series, #Halo. #Showtime pic.twitter.com/RP9W5bRV4q

Showtime previously ordered a 10-episode series but that was bumped down to nine recently. Halo was apparently in development for years at the premium network. Showtime CEO David Nevins recently spoke about it. “It took us a long time to get the script but we felt like we had something that was really interesting and felt like it belonged on Showtime in terms of its character depth, and it’s going to be a big show,” said Nevins. Usually, video game adaptations are horrendously bad across the board. But, it seems like Showtime is putting in the work to break the mold with Halo.
Showtime also announced the casting of Australian actress Yerin Ha. Ha will reportedly play Quan Ah, a teenage girl from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief “at a fateful time for them both.”
Halo doesn’t have a release date yet. But, I’d expect it to coincide with the release of Halo 6 (which, unfortunately, also doesn’t have a release date yet.)
