Shonda Rhimes has dominated prime time television for over ten years and will be awarded for her tremendous and ground breaking efforts. and is getting the respect she deserves!
Rhimes will be receiving The Hollywood Reporter’s Sherry Lansing Award at its 2014 Women in Entertainment Breakfast on December 10 in Los Angeles.
The Lansing Award recognizes a woman who is a pioneer and leader in her industry, with past recipients including: Oprah, Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren.
Speaking on Rhimes, award founder Lansing said:
“Over the past decade, Shonda Rhimes has completely redefined the way women are perceived on television – and therefore in society too.
She’s created iconic roles for women; she’s put women front and center in the national debate; and she’s also been a pioneering force in leading the way for African-American women in the media! What’s amazing about her is, she hsn’t just done this once: she’s done it over and over and over again. She’s a creative, intellectual and artistic powerhouse, and I’m thrilled she’ll recieve the award that carries my name!”
Rhimes’ production company, Shondaland, currently has three hit shows on ABC’s Thursday night lineup [which has now been dubbed ‘TGIT’ [Thank God It’s Thursday]]: Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder.
Shonda was the cover star of THR’s Showrunner issue in October.
