Last week, Creed III dominated the box office. This week, Scream VI is carrying the torch. Through the film’s opening weekend, the latest edition of the Scream franchise has generated $44.5 million at the box office. The film’s opening weekend performance bested Scream V, which generated $30 million, and Scream III, which generated $34 million.
In addition to producing positive results at the box office, Scream VI has also generated good reviews from critics. It has garnered a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 93% rating from fans.
“Reviews and audience scores are very good, and international business should be solid,” David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research told Variety.
“27 years after launching in 1996, the franchise is healthier than ever.”
Scream VI has emerged as this week’s box office leader. The horror film has outlasted Sony’s 65, Champions and the aforementioned Creed III.
“It’s extraordinary to have this type of result after six films,” Chris Aronson of Paramount told Variety.
“We blew away the opening of the last Scream. That doesn’t happen.”
