The San Francisco 49ers have a barren roster with very little talent. New general manager John Lynch has a tough task ahead of himself building a capable team. In a recent interview with Eric Branch and Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, Lynch is open dealing that highly coveted 2nd overall pick.
“We could stay pat right there and find a fabulous player, a game-changing player,” Lynch said. “It gives us a lot of flexibility to do some other things if we chose to be bold. There are going to be people that covet the pick we have, so there’s going to be some people that want to move up.”
Currently, I have the 49ers selecting Myles Garrett from Texas A&M. Garrett is clearly the best player in the draft but he may not fall to the 49ers if Cleveland decides to not take a quarterback first overall. If San Francisco deals the 2nd pick, it may signal that they are not infatuated with this current quarterback group available via the draft.
If San Fran does not trade down they could have a number of different options including linebacker Rueben Foster, safety Malik Hooker, and running back Leonard Fournette. The 49ers currently have 10 picks heading into the 2017 NFL Draft. New head coach Kyle Shanahan will likely get his pick for which quarterback he wants moving forward.
