Samuel Dalembert Is An Unrestricted Free Agent After Clearing Waivers
In Phil Jackson’s apparent plan to simply clean house and get the books ready for free agency this summer, Samuel Dalembert was one of several Knicks players recently waived. Dalembert went to the Knicks as part of the Tyson Chandler trade that sent Chandler back to Dallas. The Knicks waived Dalembert after being unsuccessful in trading him. Dalmbert wasn’t picked up off waivers, now making him an unrestricted free agent.
From Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today:
Center Samuel Dalembert has cleared waivers, I’ve been told, and is free to sign with team of his choice.
In the past Dalembert has done active work as a defensive anchor but that did not manifest with the Knicks, plus his offensive capabilities are naturally limited. That wasn’t going to cut it in the post-oriented triangle offense.
The Cavaliers did just trade for Mozgov, but you wonder if they might check on Dalembert’s interest as an insurance card. Maybe even a team like the Bulls or Raptors might inquire – teams that could use a veteran back up center. We’ll see if there’s another opportunity out there for the big man.
