Former HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler has finalized a five-year deal with Apple TV+. Under the new deal, Plepler will produce original content for the streaming service through his production company, Eden Productions.
Plepler stated, “I’m excited to work with Zack, Jamie and the standout team at Apple who have been deeply supportive of my vision for Eden from day one. The shows that Zack and Jamie produced, The Crown and Breaking Bad, are among those I most admired.”
He added, “Apple is one of the most creative companies in the world, and the perfect home for my new production company and next chapter.”
Plepler was brought to Apple TV+ by executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg. The former HBO CEO and Chairman left his former company back in early 2019. Prior to his departure, he had spent three decades working his way up the corporate ladder. In his departure, John Stankey has taken over as Warner Media CEO in the aftermath of the company’s AT&T merger.
Apple TV+ currently enjoys production deal with other Hollywood elites such as A24 and Oprah Winfrey. More details will emerge as Plepler begins leading his new endeavor.
