The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed free agent forward Richard Jefferson. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski reports it will be a one year deal at the veteran’s minimum.
A new look roster now features an upgrade at center. Through a deal in June with the New York Knicks, Tyson Chandler returns to the team he helped lead to an NBA title in 2011. The front line is now loaded with older talent in the Big D, but Jefferson is a key addition to the Mavs as far as depth is concerned. Especially after Vince Carter bolted Dallas to join the Memphis Grizzlies. They also added Chandler Parsons, Raymond Felton and Rashard Lewis.
With how well Jefferson played as a member of the Utah Jazz in 2013-14, Jefferson played in all 82 games, 78 starts, for Utah averaging 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 27.0 minutes while shooting 45% from the field, 40.9% from three-point range and 74.1% from the foul line. Even being 34 years old, there’s a chance he’ll fare even better with a superior squad in Dallas.
